Top 10 Quick Blogging Tips to Help You Succeed in 2013

Over two weeks ago, we welcomed the arrival of 2013 with much anticipation. 2012 was a year bloggers worked hard to achieved their goals, but regardless of the level of success you achieved there’s always a room of improvement, isn’t it?

The new year is a reinvigorating time for most of the bloggers to reflect on the past year and look forward to the promise of the future ahead, so If you want to start a new blog in 2013, read my ultimate guide to starting a blog which is a step by step guide to help you get started.

Quick Blogging Tips for 2013I also listed the top 10 bloggers to watch and learn from in 2013 at the last day of 2012 with the intention of helping you follow the right people and learn from them.

As a blogger myself I know that starting a blog is easy, but taking it too the next level and making money from it is difficult.

I’ve seen bloggers FAILED because they don’t follow the right people and don’t use the right strategies, so If you’ve just started a blog than take a look at the top 10…

…Quick Blogging Tips to help you succeed in 2013:

1. Start interacting with other bloggers:

This can take you on the height of blogging.

Reach out to more and more bloggers in your niche and build healthy relationships with them because relationship building is most important in blogging.

When a blogger asked me for my blogging resolution for new year, I said that my main goal is to aim more for interaction with my readers and other bloggers because blogging is all about adding VALUE to reader’s life.

This will also help you in getting more traffic because when you built relationship with bloggers and convinced blogs that already has readers will also send readers in your way by linking to your blog.

2. Write controversial posts:

Don’t spend much of your time on researching for keywords when writing a post and don’t always write typical posts.

Write creative posts with your own experience that starts a conversation with your readers, this way you’ll be encouraging them to come back to your blog again and again. I’ve written many posts like this including Why do you write? and Do you blog about the topic which you love.

Writing niche content and solving reader’s problem will surely help you reach your destination in 2013, but make sure you also write creative and controversial posts.

3. Show your talent and personality in your writing:

Show your personality in your writing by producing a content that people will want to keep coming back over and over again to read what you write on your blog.

Writing skills plays a huge role in making your readers love your blog, so establish a voice in your writing.

I’ve spent months in learning the writing skills to be able gain the trust of readers with my writing and the only advice I can give you is to read as many blogs in your niche as possible and read my post on how to improve writing skills.

4. Spend the same period of time on proofreading your post you spent on writing:

How many times do you proofread your posy after writing it?

I spend a whole day in making sure my post is free of grammar and spelling mistakes because It is very annoying to see misplaced “has” or “have” or misspelled words in a post.

Why proofreading is must?

Here’s the deal:

When people visit your blog, they come looking for VALUE, but if It’s mixed up with terrible spelling and misplaced words, they’ll leave your blog forever.

Proofread your post at least 4 to 5 times carefully after writing to make sure It’s free of spelling and grammar mistakes.

5. Make your blog design unique:

The first impression is always the last impression.

Work on the design of your blog to make the first time visitors love it. No matter what theme you use, make it unique and different from all of the other blogs using the same theme.

Judge your own blog by It’s cover (I mean the homepage) and see as a visitor. If it doesn’t look catchy than work to improve it.

Would you like to look around after arriving on the homepage of your own blog as a new visitor? Do it and tell me in comments section.

6. Write attractive blog comments:

Blog commenting is one of the most effective way of relationship building, connecting with other bloggers and getting traffic to your blog…

…Bloggers are tired of seeing the overused “Great post” and “Thanks for sharing” comments.

Stand out by adding some value in your comment, put some thoughts in your comments, and please read the whole article before leaving a comment anywhere because your comment is a personal message you’re addressing to the author of the article, so be controversial.

7. Respond to every comment on your blog:

Responding to every comment is my secret strategy to building relationship with other bloggers and increasing the number of comments.

Do you respond to every comment on your blog?

If no, than you’re making a big mistake and that means there’s no a human aspect on your blog, you need to add!

By responding to every comment on your blog, you’re encouraging them to come back to your blog to communicate.

I couple of months ago, I wrote an article on this topic on why do I respond to every comment on my blog and why you should too that you must read and apply the strategy on your blog.

8. Forget about the money and stats at first:

I won’t argue against setting your primary goal to make money from your blog, but If you really want to make money from your blog than don’t think of it at first because If you focus solely on money, you won’t be able to build credibility and establish yourself as an authority.

Don’t waste your time checking the stats of the traffic and ranking of your blog daily, I know a lot of bloggers do. Instead maximize the time you spend on something that adds value.

9. Start guest posting NOW:

Are you still ignoring guest posting?

Guest posting is the most effective way of link building, relationship building and getting attractive traffic.

In the coming week, I’ll be writing more about guest blogging here because I think most bloggers still don’t know about the importance of it.

Being the author of articles on other reputable blogs is great feeling, so don’t let the thoughts of submitting your articles on other reputable blogs intimidate you.

10. Don’t give up:

Blogging has lots of ups and downs, so when you face hard times with blogging, don’t give up and keep working towards your goals.

What would you suggest now?

I’ve shared the top 10 quick blogging tips that can help you succeed in 2013 and I’m done now, but I’m sure this isn’t the end.

What would you suggest to your readers that can help them to reach their destination in 2013? Post an attractive comment below and let me know.

Controversial posts, good call Ehsan. Negativity sells.

    • January 17, 2013 at 1:40 pm #

Thanks Greg, I’ve noticed you wrote couples of creative and controversial posts on Dear Blogger. Do you mind sharing some tips with us? :P

  39. January 16, 2013 at 8:04 pm #

When i started my blog i started writing about the content which i knew well and never tried controversial posts. Can you provide some of the examples or links on controversial posts?

I agree with your point, anybody can start writing guest post provided content is unique and good quality, which interests the readers.

Remember when my first guest post was published, you had suggested me to write guest article on reputable blogs, that really inspired me to attempt and my guest post were successfully published in comptalks and itechcode. I should thank you for your suggestion which made me to think about that :)

    • January 17, 2013 at 1:35 pm #

Lokesh, I’ve already shared two examples of the controversial posts above. Controversial posts are those posts which starts a conversation of any type with your readers, for example you can ask a question from your readers in the post or tell them something interesting like at Pup-ups are one of the most annoying thing.

Glad to know you followed my advice and submitted a guest post Lokesh, but always try to target a high quality blog or PR4 to PR7 to submit a guest post.

What’s the biggest blogging challenge for you in 2013 Lokesh?

I would agree with you on these tips Ehsan!

I know that a lot of times when we’re given a list of things to do that when not elaborated on some people don’t quite understand. I would hope though that if that were the case then they would definitely ask in the comment section. Best way to learn isn’t it!

Of course commenting is my favorite one out of all of these. Just thought I’d add that one. ;-)

    Thanks Ehsan, love this list.

    Hi Ehsan,

Happy New Year to you! It’s a good thing to see that you are waxing stronger by the day. I totally agree with you on these points. One thing I have been preaching right from the last weeks of December 2012 is the need for bloggers to re-evaluate their strategies and tactics. I think, taking a deeper look at what you are doing and coming up with ways of doing it better this year will bring more success than just trying to look for some quick fixes.

One of the questions I think will help any blogger to achieve more is asking, why am I here? Get that right and any strategy will be choosing to build your blogging business fall in place. That idea of interacting with other bloggers is one that I really want to work on also this year. Because of many other engagements I wasn’t really able to do that but this year I’ve decided to join a few blogging communities and work them more closing than I did in 2012.

    Thanks for sharing.

    • January 16, 2013 at 1:17 pm #

Happy new year to you too Chadrack, It’s great to have you here after long time.

I appreciate the suggestions you gave us here. I agree with what you said on doing better the things we were doing in past will bring more success.

Figuring out what is working for you and what doesn’t will also help to achieve more this year.

Thanks for the awesome comment Chadrack, hope to see ya back :)

Interaction with bloggers n giving quality guest posts are the ways to show the real writing talent. I cannot suggest any tips to bloggers, coz you have consolidated all the possible and exceptional ways to thrive in blogging. After writing and publishing the posts, it is vital to concentrate in promotion process to drive quick n genuine traffic.

What promotion strategies you have to share with us Nirmala?

  46. January 15, 2013 at 4:39 pm #

    Hi Ehsan
You have listed some great tips here. I think building a relationship with your readers is a must, before you even think about making money from your blog you must focus on getting traffic to it.
I love blog hopping and as you say it is vital that you reply to any comments to your post, it is so rude not to, you will lose people if you continue to ignore their comments.
Thanks for sharing, hope you have a great day.

    • January 15, 2013 at 7:11 pm #

Hey Pauline, I appreciate your comment.

Responding to every comment is what I’m doing from day one on my blog, which is why I get lots of comments on each of my post.

Hope to see ya back Pauline.

  47. January 15, 2013 at 4:31 pm #

A unique design is useful when attracting readers. But another thing we shouldn’t ignore is the spped of our blog. Having a theme which loads very quickly always helps. Even if its a heavy theme you can use plugins like W3 total cache or super cache and with them using cdn services like cloudflare or incapsula can really help.
Thanks for commenting on my blog, Ehsan.

    • January 15, 2013 at 7:09 pm #

You’re Lahaul, Speed of a blog plays huge role too.

Thanks for sharing your views Lahaul. I’ll soon write an article on making your blog load fast.

      Thanks for your comment.

  48. January 15, 2013 at 3:46 pm #

Ehsan, you have said all the 10 top points I had in my mind. So I could not add any more here :)

I am working on many guest posts. I am trying to write one guest posts for every one article I publish on my blog. (1:1).

Within hours one will be appearing on Problogger. I have read your guest posts on DBT.

    2 questions:
    1. How often you write guest posts Ehsan? Is there any frequency like me???
    2. Have you tried Problogger?

    • January 15, 2013 at 4:20 pm #

Glad you liked the points Shahad,

It’s great to know you’re getting featured on Problogger.

      1. I write guest posts ones or twice a month (sometimes thrice)
      2. I’ve tried it ones long ago when I just started, but rejected and never tried again. I’ll write for Problogger soon.

      Thanks for your comment :)

  49. January 15, 2013 at 3:04 pm #

When i started interacting with other like minded people, i saw an increase in my traffic by 3 times.
This is one of the important point every blogger must follow and stress on.
Secondly, the quality articles. No need to say anything about this.

    • January 15, 2013 at 3:22 pm #

Glad to know my strategy worked for you Anchit which I shared in my post on (One of the best strategy to grow a blog)

Why don’t you want to say anything about quality content Anchit? :D

  50. January 15, 2013 at 3:03 pm #

I think that proofreading is the thing that even many big bloggers are not doing as I have seen many, many mistakes on many blogs even Problogger (but that wasn’t Darren’s post lol ). Proofreading is the most important thing to do after publishing a post.

    Good Post Bro, Keep Growing.

    • January 15, 2013 at 3:17 pm #

Everyone makes mistakes Anurag, so It’s not a big issue, but with proofreading you can correct lots of mistakes.

How much time do you spent on proofreading Anurag?

      • January 17, 2013 at 7:25 am #

Ehsan, Actually the time I would spend in proofreading depends upon how much time I have consumed to write a post. For ex – If I have consumed 2 hour in writing a post than I will just proofread it in 5 minutes (1 time) and if I have taken 1 hour for the completion than I would proofread a post for 10 – 15 minuter (2 – 3 times).

        • January 17, 2013 at 2:03 pm #

Proofreading it 5 times is good Anurag. I hope It helps you in increasing the VALUE you give to your readers in your post, isn’t it?

  51. January 15, 2013 at 2:25 pm #

    Again a great post Ehsan.

Design plays a significant role to attract you audience and that’s why i asked you yesterday and thanks you really help newbies.

Blog commenting is a good way to introduce your blog but i have seen many of us use this as for backlinks. Writing style also a great point with your contents and commenting.

Building an audience in social networking site is also a great way to engage users and other bloggers.

Thanks for this great posts.. Every time i read any content in GuideandNews i feel so glad but can’t have that much of patience wait for the next posts. :) :D ;)

    • January 15, 2013 at 3:10 pm #

      Thanks Ummeed,

What did you ask me? I forgot it lol.

Blog commenting is great, but quality and attractive comments (like yours) has a lot of benefits.

I love your comments Ummeed, so don’t stop them coming on my blog ok?

      Glad you liked the post.

  52. January 15, 2013 at 2:22 pm #

    HI Ehsan

    Well said!

I think all the points you have mentioned are really the key to succeess in 2013.I think talent is really very important and may apply to every sphere of life, but how one stand out from the crowd is really which can make or break the story.

I really admire your qualities of responding to every comment and then personally visiting every blog, this is an awsome art which if practiced regularly will create a beeline of friends which I can see are many in your case.

Last but not the least “Never say die attitude” which will keep everyone going in blogosphere.

Thanks for sharing this awesome information.

    • January 15, 2013 at 3:07 pm #

      Hey Sapna,

Thanks for the nice words. I love communicating with my reader through comments and start a conversation of any type. I do visit my commentator’s blog to remind them about my blog which is an effective way to make them come back again.

Agreed with you on the die attitude.

Hope to see ya back Sapna.

Yes as you have said having a attractive and unique home page drives the interest of the people to be in our blog. But what about people who don’t know programming or designing a website can do ??

All we can do is just with some plugins we can make it look neat. But how attractive ??

Every one thinks unique but while coming on to implement some knows how to do it and many don’t know how to do.

Even myself I believe uniqueness and design of homepage attracts more visitors but how can I do it ??

Apart from programming customization, is there any way which we can do with plugins ??

    • January 15, 2013 at 1:57 pm #

      Good question Shathyan,

Plugins do help you in performing your blog well, but I’ve never used or heard of a plugin that can help in customization of your blog.

Those people who know how to make their theme attractive had learned it, and everyone can learn it. Just choose a good theme (I recommend Theme Junkie) and play with It’s codes for sometime, you’ll learn it yourself.

Another way it to hire someone to customize your theme and make it look attractive (I do consulting If you’re a Theme Junkie user)

Thanks for your comment Shathyan, hope to see ya back.

  54. January 15, 2013 at 1:26 pm #

Hi Ehsaan ,agree with you A unique blog design really matter .We should make our blog design which is easy to navigate by our readers.
i also like 7th point ,we must give respond to every comment .
    thanks for the great article.

    • January 15, 2013 at 1:40 pm #

      You got me wrong Sumit.

Obviously easy navigation plays a big role, but what I was talking about the design of your blog is unique.

For example, If you’re on WordPress and you’re using a THEME which many other bloggers are using, so you have to customize it and make it different from them.

I appreciate your comment BTW. Hope to see ya back.

    • January 17, 2013 at 3:07 pm #

I am sorry due to entering your conversation.
However, I think unique design + easy navigation together make this thing perfect. isn’t ?

      • January 17, 2013 at 6:02 pm #

Right Anis! But remember than unique design! not good design ok.

  55. January 15, 2013 at 11:54 am #

I think that 8 point is the most important for NEWBIES because these days many bloggers start a blog for just only money. And 9 point is very important me because I haven’t started writing guest posts so far.

    • January 15, 2013 at 12:56 pm #

Every point is important for newbies Raplus.

I suggest you start guest posting now because you won’t be able to grow your blog without featuring it to the top blogs in your niche.

Feel free to ask me anything about guest blogging If you need help.

      • January 16, 2013 at 1:25 am #

I have written only 25 posts for my blog. I think there is no point in writing a guest posts if we don’t have at least 30 posts. After completing 30 posts I will write guest posts. And there is huge possibility to reject my guest posts due to my bad Grammar :-D

        • January 16, 2013 at 5:55 am #

Raplus, You can start guest posting at anytime even If you have only 10 posts on your blog. The number of posts doesn’t matter, the quality and uniqueness matters.

Bad grammar is a big problem :D Work to improve it :)

        • January 17, 2013 at 3:03 pm #

          HI raplus,
Your blog is getting popularity. I have seen. So, what is the secrete ? :P

          • January 17, 2013 at 4:33 pm #

The secret is that he is interviewing me there :D kidding. Raplus?

          • January 18, 2013 at 11:47 am #

May be Ehsan :-P There is no secrete Anis. I write everything what I have learn blogging. Thank for your words bro :-)
