5 Ways To Gain The Trust of Your Readers

How To Gain Trust Of Your ReadersThat’s right… You’ve read the correct headline.

Blogging is all about gaining the trust of your readers and building relationship with them.

If you wish to convert the casual readers into loyal readers, you need to imbibe the trust in them.

There was a time when running a blog or website and earning money from it was so easy because gaining the trust wasn’t necessary that time. If you had a website with good looking design, you had trust, but these days blogging had become more about building relationships and networking etc.

Before we continue, read: How to encourage first time visitors to stay on your blog

I have been blogging and trying to make my readers trust me since last 10 months and during my experience, I’ve found many ways to make your readers trust you which I’m going to share in this post.

“To be trusted is better compliment than anything else in blogging” Click to tweet

And the Ways to Make Your Readers Trust you are…

…There are actually five ways:

1. A picture says a million words:

The readers like to know who they are listening to and this is very important too. You must introduce yourself to your readers to let them know you’re the man behind that blog.

A picture may help someone remember your blog forever because of the face behind the blog.

Do not put up an old or blurry pic, instead a picture of yourself works great not only on “About” page of your blog, but also in blog posts. This is what which Derek Halpern of Social Triggers do.

If possible, add some pictures and videos of yourself in posts to not just tell, but also show.

2. Show some appreciation:

If someone visits your blog and reads your content, you should show appreciation to make them love your blog.

I use a “Thank You” page on my blog for first time commentators. This is the best way to show appreciation to the people taking time to add value.

Now If you didn’t commented on my blog yet, what I want you to do is just leave a comment below and see how the process works and you’ll be landed to a “Thank You” page of my blog.

Not only that, there are a lot other ways to show appreciation to your readers.

Showing appreciation makes them trust you that you’re a real, friendly and honest person.

3. Create an everlasting About Me page:

If you use all the possible ways to connect with your readers, they’re more likely to return to your blog.

The About Me page of your blog is the best way to begin the connections with your readers. This is the most important page of your blog which need to be visible for everyone.

Create an everlasting and unforgettable About Me page for your blog. Use a real picture of yourself with all the information about yourself and a way to connect with you on your About ME page.

My friend Greg Narayan has a great article about creating an everlasting About me page for your blog.

4. Let them know you care about them:

Let your readers know you care about them. This is where when reposing to their comments and emails comes.

I have been asked many times by bloggers that why do I respond to every comment on my blog. This is my answer to them.

You can’t have relationship and you can’t gain their trust without conversation, so answering to their comments is the best way to have a conversation with them.

They’ll start believing in you If you respond to their questions and try to solve their problems.

This way the number of comments will also increase in your blog, that is why I get 50+ comments in each of my post because I care about my readers.

5. Offer them free stuff:

They’ll start trusting in you and will be loyal to you If you offer free stuff for them.

I mean not big prizes, just host giveaways on your blog like I have been doing here on GAN. You can offer them anything related to your niche.

Like I have given away Genesis Framework with 6 Child Themes and CommentLuv Premium plugin here.

Believe me, If you offer them free stuff this will make them trust in your blog.

What about you?

Remember, It takes years to build up trust and only seconds to destroy it. So be yourself and don’t break commitment to yourself.

Be credible, helpful and consistent and you’ll gain the trust of your readers.

What’s your experience to gain the trust and loyalty of your readers? I would love to hear your thoughts on this, so leave a comment below and let us know?

Use a caricature if you don’t want to use real picture of you. Me I try to be different stand out, do stuff that is just plain weird at times, my company Dead Dog Design has thrived and I credit that for conversional stuff. It’s demented and invokes a reaction in their mind which makes them remember me. Oh I love my dog that is horrid. But they remember that!

Contest are are great, but make personal connections. Blogging/niche site are a business and you never know what trades you can make with people to help both parties. I can’t count on one finger how many times I have done this. People like to engage and like you to provide assistance to their needs.

Now lets see this first time page!

Hey Garen, No matter you’re running your blog as a business or anything else, running contests helps in gaining the trust of people. There must be something you can offer to your visitors.

Trust of readers is one of the most important step in gaining access to high-level community in the niche. Your highlighted points are good to go, but I believe if we handle social media appearance carefully and gradually, we can earn more trust of the readers and customers.

Well trust is very important in blogging as i’ve seen recently a blogger started a giveaway in his blog and after the time is over he ended the giveaway and didn’t declared the winner.. I guess he fooled us all by make entries for his blog only for hits.. So my intention in this issue is .. we should not loose our trust by some nasty things.

    • October 19, 2012 at 10:27 pm #

HAha really Cairo? I can’t believe it :D

A blogger tried to make his readers fool, Can’t stop laughing.

Well, as I said It takes years to build trust and only seconds to destroy it, so be careful :)

  15. October 18, 2012 at 9:23 am #

    Assalaam Alaikum Ehsan,

The very first thing I always do with my commentators is reply to their queries in comment section.
As soon as I finish with it, I go for his blog/article as he always provides his blog link or article link using CommentLuv Plugin(Generally bloggers comment on my articles).

What I do is – visit his site/blog, read his post, and thank him in the form of comment or ask whatever queries I have in comment section.

Because I personally feel that commenting on site is a way of thanking him.

What else a common blogger needs ??
A visitor should visit his website, reads his posts/articles, and comment regarding anything like thanking him or praising his skills or asking any kind of query.
And this may be continued as a cycle by exchanging comments on each others blogs.

    Isn’t it ?

    • October 18, 2012 at 9:49 am #

      Walaikum Salaam Abdullah,

Hope you’re doing great. You are doing a great job for building relationships with the bloggers in your niche.

Actually this was my trick which I had been doing. It not only build the relationship with the blogger, but also trust. One of the reason why I read their blog is the interaction with the readers and let them know that their comment is valuable for me.

That is also why I’m breaking my back to respond to each and every comment on my blog.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Abdullah, Appreciate your comment :)

    Hi Ehsan,
Trust is something that can be hard to earn when you’re online, but once it is earned it really is worth it. For most bloggers who sell stuff online, they must use them first, give their verdict about it, and then recommend it to their customers if it is really worth buying.

    • October 18, 2012 at 9:43 am #

Thanks for your comment Felicia. Yup, Building relationship is the first and most important step If you want to sell something online because If people trust you, they’ll buy what you recommend them. It isn’t possible without trust.

      • Felicia
        October 26, 2012 at 8:39 am #

I agree, any business will not flourish if your customers have no trust in the products/services that your business offers. But on the other hand, there are people who avail a product/service just to test them out for the first time, even without much publicity or effort from the merchant/seller. If the transaction goes well and the products/services meet the customer’s satisfaction, then that’s how they gain the trust of their customers too. First impressions last forever, as the saying goes.

        • October 26, 2012 at 2:48 pm #

          Agreed with you Felicia :)

          Thanks for stopping by.

    Hey Ehsan

I see myself more as an Affiliate Marketer or Internet Marketer, who knows how to blog. So I am not interested in building trust with readers of my blog. I am more interested in building trust with the people who have taken positive action after reading one of my blog post.

    • October 18, 2012 at 9:35 am #

Hey Paul, Welcome to my blog.

Just tell me one thing? How will you know about a reader who didn’t take any action after reading your post? Of course you can’t, so I’m also talking about the readers who takes a positive action after reading the post.

One thing is to never try to sell your readers something you don’t use or wouldn’t use. Even if a company is offering 80% commissions on sales, don’t recommend the product unless you like it yourself. This is something I see way too many bloggers doing these days.

    • October 16, 2012 at 7:25 am #

Ageed with you Ian, Always recommend products that you’ve used yourself.

      Thanks.
