So, here are the top 10 SEO Optimization tips you must know about to get 1st rank on Google.
1. Targeting a long tail keyword
To make your content more search engine friendly and user friendly, you’d probably need to target a long tail keyword for your post.
For instance, In one of my post getting on 1st page of Google with keyword “SEO Tips” was quite difficult for me, so I’ve chosen “SEO Tips 2012″ because of low competition.
The competition in long tail keywords is low and It will be quite easy for you to get good ranking.
Do a quick research for your keyword and be sure to check that the keyword must have good monthly searches on Google.
You’ll get long term organic traffic by targeting a long tail and low competition keyword.
2. Perfect Keyword Placement:
Perfect keyword placement is must in order to let search engine bots know about your targeted keyword. You need to include the targeted keyword in following phrases:
- Title: The page title is the most important SEO factor. Including the main keyword in title of the post is must to make it SEO friendly and to get good ranking.
- Meta Description: The meta description is what which often appears as the text snippet below your listing, so It will also help you to get good ranking If It’s included the main keyword.
- SEO-friendly URL: You should also include the main keyword in your URL, for example guideandnews.com/2012/10/06/seo-optimization-tips. It will also help you to notice search engines about relevant keyword.
3. Write quality and unique content:
The next step is to write unique and quality content for that keyword. Other than perfect keyword placement you also need to write unique, long, quality and search engine friendly content too.
If you’re trying to sell the same product that 100 other bloggers are doing than you need to make your content stand out.
Google and other search engines loves unique content that describes the real value and is helpful for people.
4. Build Backlinks
Backlinks are the order of the day in current SEO technology and every effort should be made to seek backlinks from reputable sites.
You must know that quality of the backlinks matters most to get better ranking in search engines, not quantity.
The relevance of the link is very important and search engines will penalize you If your blog has excessive number of irrelevant backlinks. Below are some effective link building methods:
- Guest Blogging: Guest blogging is one of the most effective link building method after the animal update from Google (Panda and Penguin). You should try to guest post on top PR5 to PR7 blogs in your niche. You might want to read my post on how guest blogging on other sites can help new bloggers.
- Dofollow commenting: Commenting on blogs in your niche that allows Dofollow attributed links on their comment section is another effective way to improve your keyword’s SEO ranking.
- Forums participating: Participating in forums is also a good link building tactic If you participate on high PR and high traffic forums. Read 5 reasons why forums are important for bloggers.
5. Use main keyword as anchor text:
Use your targeted keyword as anchor text when you’re guest posting on any blog. This helps tells the search engine bots what the page is all about.
Don’t overdo it tough too many backlinks with same anchor text tends to look spammy.
6. Social media promotion:
In today’s SEO world without social media promotion you can’t expect your blog to get good ranking.
Promoting your post on social media sites is another way to get your blog in less time. Sites like Facebook, Twitter and Google+ are being used as part of search engine ranking for Google and Bing.

- ALT Text: Alt text is a text that search engines use to understand the image. If the image is relevant to the post topic, you can include your main keyword as alt text.
- File name: Pick a descriptive file name for your image before uploading it to your blog because It will also help for your search engine rankings.
- File size: If you have a large image, make sure use a free image edition program to make your image a desired size because when you have large image, and input height and width tags on that image to make it smaller, It will slow up your blog.
8. Video Content:
Also surround video content on your blog because the search engines look at the surrounding content to define the usefulness of the video for the query.
Be sure to submit your videos to other quality video websites like Youtube, AOL and MSN etc.

1; Use Long Tail Keywords.
2; Avoid Repetition.
3; Try using alternate words for Keywords if you got them already in the Meta Description
4; Try pushing the Main Keyword to the Beginning of the Title.
5; And keep it simple. Stuffing Keywords might sometimes give you search impressions. But not clicks. Let it magnetize the Searchers.

In the case of managing a Photography site, you need to put the complete SEO pressure on your Images since there won’t be much content.
Use Proper title’s with long tail keywords and use alt text for a short word or keyword which is related to that image.
Don’t miss these two parts.
The filename of the images also matters,so name them accordingly.
The next thing is location, make sure you use ( eg; yoursite.com/images/thepicture.jpg) a location of subfolder named images or pictures.
And don’t forget to link your images with appropriate content. It can be internal links or external links.

First of all, don’t always go for Dofollow backlinks. Nofollows are also worth doing.
Don’t discriminate between them. Sometimes it may be Nofollows which will bring luck to you.

If you want to know if one link is nofollow or dofollow attribute, check its HTML structure and find out if its rel=”the-item-you-need”.

@Ehsaan bro I was talking about Anchor Text Variation. Suppose you wrote an article ” Tips for Blogging AND SEO ” . Before Google Panda/Penguin Algorithm updates , you could rank article with a lot of backlinks having Long Anchor Text like “Tips for Blogging AND SEO” . But now Google takes it as a spam.
So break your title into keywords and then create different-2 Anchor Text. Hope you got it.

I read somewhere to keep the keyword density 3-4%, but seeing your post length, I don’t think your keyword density is that much. Then how it helped in optimization?
Also SEOPressor is a premium plugin. For a blogger who doesn’t have money to spend on premium plugin, then WordPress SEO by Yoast is best?
The keyword density of this post is above 1% and It’s good to have a keyword density of 1 to 3 percent.
A blogger shouldn’t hesitate in doing small investments on his blog. BTW, Yes you can use WordPress SEO by Yoast plugin.

I do target any keyword that suits the topic of that post idea which is rounding in my mind at time of writing. Sometime the keyword I target has 500 monthly searches, sometime I has more than 4000, but I rarely focus on SEO.

Yup, I’ve done a lot of guest posts. Well, first of all I target a blog for guest pot than I find an idea for guest post and start writing. 700 to 1000 words for guest would be good enough, but be sure to guest post on blog relevant to your niche.

Ashish, Glad you liked this post. First do some research for particular keyword and target a long tail keyword that has good monthly searches on Google than use that as a title of your post and write quality, unique and long post for that keeping in mind all the necessary SEO aspects.
Also target the same niche as keyword in your SEO plugin which you’re using on your blog.

There are some good tips here and most of them I have done for my site. I run a Car Detailing business based in Sussex UK. I tend to comment on blogs which interest me mainly regarding blogging and SEO. I have commented on forums related to my industry as well. But I am unable to find any blogs related to the car industry. Any ideas or tips would be great as you stated I could get hit by Google if my backlinks aren’t related.
The only suggestion I can give you is that do some research on Google and other blogging directories, I’m sure you’ll find blogs on car.
Good tips Ehsan…..I must say that for getting good search engine ranking one will need to follow all tips which you have mentioned. One of the best things mentioned by you is properly targeting long tail keywords. I must say that you must be giving lot of hours daily towards blogging to achieve your goal of getting on the 1st page of google for some targeted keywords.

We can also build good backlinks from comment luv enabled blogs. Once comments are published, then we have two backlinks, one to the homepage and another to the article link.
That can impact our SEO in my experiences.

Ranking no 1 or in top 10 is little bit tough task. The Keyword placement needs very high accuracy. Well at the moment I’m hardly hit by Panda Shit so I’m trying my best to recover from it.
It needs little hard work but lots of patience to get 1st rank on Google Rudraksh. Just keep doing your work, I’m sure you’ll recover from it.

You have included all the tips my friend, just to highlight that optimizing your images and videos are one of the top lists if you are using them, the traffic that video and images are generating is increasing dramatically. Another thing to highlight is Forums and that is based on my experience that are not only required for backlinks and helping you to gain better ranking but also generate huge traffic that can last years even after you stop using them, the catch is to do it in the right way and not to act as a spammer.
Hey Qasim, Yup using videos and podcast content is a great way to increase the traffic and ranking.
I haven’t started video tutorials yet, but I’m going to start it soon. Participating in forums is great, you know what, Digital Points forum was my biggest source of traffic from long time because I was an active member there.

1. Don’t be in dilemma anymore and choose, you should choose SEO and readers both like I do. Write quality and unique post by optimizing it for better SEO, this is what I’ve been doing and my readers love my content as well as I also get good ranking.
2.Yup, website.com/keyword is more SEO friendly, but showing the date of the post is also good and won’t hurt the SEO ranking, even It will give better ranking because showing the dates of the post is what search engines and readers both love.
3. Irrelevant backlinks are the backlinks from irrelevant blogs, for example If you have a blog about blogging and you’re getting backlinks from recipe blog. The backlinks from low quality and PR0 blogs are also called irrelevant backlinks.
Always try to get backlinks from top blog in your niche.

Great post, and has a lot of good information in it. However if you are writing for newbies some newbies do not know what long tail key word means. Also new Google updates are going to start penalizing around 2.5 percent of US searches that have their key words in domains and URL’s pending on the content. Content will always be king.

Keith, The newbies who don’t know about what the long keyword is are those who are in very beginning level. They must learn a lot of things first, However this article is for bloggers who wants to get better ranking for their posts.
Google’s new algorithm is penalizing the exact math domain name, but the URL’s that has keyword in it.

Very nice post for a newbie blogger like me… And found that all your points are very useful specially “Targeting a long tail keyword” gives you more filtered results, “Write quality and unique content” we know that Quality content is the KING so only quality content can get 1st rank on GOOGLE, “Optimize your image” always put a long tail keyword in ALT. TEXT which also helps in SEO.

You’re right Praveen that quality content is king, but networking and building relationships with other bloggers is queen. You also need to use other strategies to get traffic to your blog other than only focusing on SEO.

You have touched tough Onpage and Offpage seo optimization tips.
To add to point 2, the keyword must be correctly used in the article with a density of 1.5% to 3%. Be sure to include it in the html tags and try as much to have it in the introduction, body and conclusion. Make sure the article links to one or two internal and related articles.

I have a website with the domain howtomakelumpia.com and it’s been ranking in the #1 spot now for months with the keyword “how to make lumpia” on Google.

The meta description is the short paragraph that will be showed below title in search engines. If you’re using a SEO plugin like All in ONE SEO or WordPress SEO by Yoast, you might include the main keyword in your meta description.

Good tips but I am not sure if its the right time to do anything at the moment as far as SEO is concerned but I could be wrong. There are too many changes occurring at the moment and one wrong move and one could be wiping tears.

You have to build your meat of your readers first and at the end optimize it for Search Engines.

What I was wondering is that let’s say I want an article of mine to top the search engines for a specific keyword (long-tail) and doesn’t have much competition and has a less than 500 searches a month. Now, should I be building backlinks to that specific article, or should I just continue building backlinks to my blog (homepage)?

If you’re written an article and targeted long tail keyword for that post. Now If you want to get on first page (At least good rank) you need to build backlinks, but that doesn’t mean you should be building backlinks to that specific article because you have lots of articles on your blog that you want to get rank for.
You can build some links on that specific article by leaving a comment on CommentLuv enabled blogs that gives Dofollow link, but If you’re guest posting you should get backlinks to your homepage or archives page because If you get backlink to your homepage, the PR or link juice will be passed to all of the posts in your homepage, but If you build backlink to specific page, you’ll get good PR and ranking only for that specific post.
Raaj, This is something which I’ll write about as a post soon. Always try to build backlinks to the page where you’ve linked to all of the posts like “Archive page”.
