Google SiteLinks: How To Get Google Sitelinks For Your Blog

How to get Google sitelinks is a question I have been asked many times by bloggers after sharing the screenshot of my blog’s Google sitelinks on Facebook.

Having Google Sitelinks means extra weight which Google is giving to your blog and visitors who are looking your blog through search engine can easily trace your blog. It is also a great way to highlight some great pages of your blog on search engine.

There are a lot of newbies who wants to know what Sitelinks actually is, they even don’t know It’s called sitelinks. So, Here I want to share some tips for other bloggers to be rewarded by Google sitelinks for their blog.

Here’s what I’ll discuss in this post:

  • What is Google Sitelinks?
  • Example of Sitelinks of my blog
  • Benefits of having Google Sitelinks
  • How to get Google Sitelinks

So, are you ready? Let’s dive in details of this.

What is Google sitelink?

Google sitelinks are those links that appear below the first result when you search for a name or link of a website or blog. They are automatic links generated by Google Algorithm that appear below your blog listing in Google search result pages.

Here’s an example of Sitelinks. Go to and search for a keyword “GuideAndNews” beneath the main result, You’ll see links to various pages or my blog.

Google sitelinks

Google Sitelinks for my blog:

Few weeks back Guide and News had been awarded by Google SiteLinks. There are total 6 sitelinks for my blog I can see. You can check my blog’s Sitelinks by searching the term “GuideAndNews” on Google or you can view the screenshot I shared above.

Benefits of having Google Sitelinks:

There are a lot of benefits of having Google sitelinks for your blog, but three of them which I know are:

  1. Having Google Sitelinks is great way to increase in traffic for your blog or website because Sitelinks will give you more exposure in search results.
  2. You’ll get the credibility by having Sitelinks because only established and authority sites have Sitelinks, so. When someone come across them after searching for a name of your blog or website, they’ll get a reassurance from search engine that your blog’s content must be good.
  3. Sitelinks shows that your blog content is trustful and Google trusted your blog and gave you the Sitelinks.

How to get Google sitelinks:

I never worry about getting sitelinks for any of my blog because I believe that If you publish quality content on your blog, you’ll automatically get Google sitelinks.

Google itself has never shared anything that can tell to bloggers and website owners how to get Sitelinks. Google handles it automatically through an algorithm and usually you’ll get Sitelinks when your blog is perceived as an authority.

There are few things you can do to improve the odds of getting Sitelinks.

  1. Your blog needs good amount of quality backlinks and people and searching for It’s name on Google.
  2. You must also have good amount of quality and unique content on your blog.
  3. Not a lot, but few guest post on at least PR4 blogs and get backlinks on your blog with your blog name.
  4. Add useful title and meta description to your blog, especially the homepage to improve click through rate from SERP.
  5. You should try to get some inbound links from high quality sites.
  6. Blog age must be at least 5 months old.
  7. Your blog should be SEO friendly like good keywords, SEO friendly title and meta description. If you’re a WordPress user you can try SEO plugins like All in one SEO or WordPress SEO by Yoast.
  8. If your click through rates are high on search engine than you’ll get Sitelinks easily, so try to increase the click through rates for your homepage on search engine.
  9. Get Google authorship markup and show your image in Google search results for your articles, It will also help you to get sitelinks quickly.

There are a lot more tricks to increase the chances of getting sitelinks for your blog, but I’ve shared what I knew.

Is there any reason behind it.

Hi Ehsan. To be honest, my blog title isn’t one that is being searched on google like “My Blog Is My Money”. But yet, do I have any chances of getting sitelinks soon? Moreover, I’ve got authorship both on my homepage (when seen in search results) and my posts.

    • October 6, 2012 at 6:41 pm #

Raaj, Do you think that the keyword “GuideAndNews” has monthly searches on Google?

Bro, you have to make people search for your blog on Google.

CopyBlogger isn’t a searchable keyword, but the website is popular so people search about it on Google.

  9. October 2, 2012 at 6:34 pm #

Ehsan, I was able to get sitelinks for my blog in 6 to 8 months type. I think it becomes a bit easy in getting sitelinks if you are targeting a unique keyword in your brand or domain name like Amazon, Google and Yahoo. You may not be able to get these links for your domain if your domain is just a collection of highly competitive terms like blogging, seo, affiliate marketing etc

    • October 2, 2012 at 7:49 pm #

Well agreed with you on this Anil, One must use a short and catchy name for their blog to get sitelinks and It’ll be easy, but If you try to get sitelinks for a high competition keyword, It’ll be bit hard.

Thanks for landing and sharing your thoughts Anil.

  10. September 28, 2012 at 8:34 pm #

Hey Ehsan, thanks for approving my other comment. Nice post again. Site links occur mostly for the “well known,” However, Google does state that they place heavy influence on what the most visited pages are on a site, or more importantly the entrance page most visited.

  11. September 27, 2012 at 5:21 pm #

Ohh, ok Ehsan. Thanks for clearing my doubt :)

    Hey Ehsan Ullah,

Well i think site link are necessary for every blog as it looks as an popular blog, although i guess most popular posts are shown in sitelinks. thanks for the tips for building sitelinks

    • September 27, 2012 at 12:20 pm #

Harley, you can manage your posts like which posts to show on your sitelinks result from Google webmaster tools.

  13. September 26, 2012 at 7:04 pm #

whenever i type my blog’s name in google……first thing i see is “Did you mean this:testfriki”
please tell what this problem is due to?

    • September 26, 2012 at 9:30 pm #

Neeraj, That is because “TestFriki” is popular website and your blog name is “Netfriki” which is similar to TestFriki, so Google think that you wanted to search for “Testfriki” that is why they show you this.

Your blog is new and you need to build authority first to get to see on first result without that any problem and to get sitelinks.

  14. September 25, 2012 at 6:37 pm #

Now my site also have sitelinks in Google. I think in last google update google prefer to use sitelinks of websites now for a brand site name search at first position it shows all results in a format of sitelinks and rest of 7-9(now every search page doesn’t include 10 results in google) results will be other than this domain.

Yes, since a lot of people type in “go” searches in Google I can see how sitelinks are a good thing. They want to go directly to your site and if you have a bunch of links they’re more likely to find something of interest and stay there. It also helps with the site’s reputation.

    Hi Ehsan,
I often wondered how to get those sitelinks below the website link in Google search results. Like you said, I also think that it depends on the number of high quality backlinks you have pointing back to your site and probably the age of the website. Thanks for this post, it will helped me to understand the concept well.

    • September 17, 2012 at 7:38 am #

Glade you liked my post Vineet, It depends on the number of backlinks and also you must build authority on your blog to get it.

  25. Ben Ko
    September 16, 2012 at 3:16 pm #

I agree. But according to my experience, Google doesn’t only count on high quality back links. My site got Google sitelinks in first 30 days only. Google respects sites with good domain names. If you you put proper User Agreement, Privacy Policy, and About Us there is 70% chance that you will get Google sitelinks. Thanks.

    • September 16, 2012 at 3:50 pm #

I agree with you on creating pages like Privacy Policy and About us etc, but that doesn’t mean you’ll get sitelinks with only having a good domain name with these pages. You have to work on your blog for sometime and build some backlinks to get sitelinks for your blog.

  26. September 16, 2012 at 11:06 am #

    Hey Ehsan,

My blog also awarded by Google Sitelinks with 6 of my quality articles. Do check in Google with “SPATME” as a keyword.

I was trying very hard to get these sitelinks earlier but everything I did was in vain. But after 2 months when I saw it again on google it displayed. I was like ” Oh man :O !”

It feels really awesome to see sitelinks. The main thing is that it look Professional :P (isn’t it ??)

The thing you just mentioned above about site authority is true. It is MUST to have it.

    • September 16, 2012 at 2:24 pm #

Agree with you Abdullah, Our blog looks awesome and professional in Google search with sitelinks. The authority is must for sitelinks. I’ve got sitelinks because of my guest posts on some top blogs.

      • September 16, 2012 at 5:31 pm #

        That is awesome bro.

But in the place of 6 articles in sitelinks I want to keep us
        2. privacy policy
        3. About US
        4. Achieves etc etc.. Hope you understood what I meant ??

So, can we do that ???

        • September 16, 2012 at 6:09 pm #

Yes, you can do it from Webmaster tools. You can manage your sitelinks through there.

          • September 16, 2012 at 7:04 pm #

I never knew that we also have an option of changing sitelinks in webmaster tools.

Thanks for sharing this info bro :)

But will there be any negative effect if I demote particular post from sitelinks ????

          • September 16, 2012 at 7:36 pm #

No there won’t be any negative effect. Your sitelinks is on your control, so you can do anything with it. :)

    Hey bro,

You had the right mindset from the beginning, by not actively seeking to obtain them you’ve just done your own thing and its happened naturally. I do however think when a site has reached a certain age its becomes eligible. I can not waiting until i get mine, but if if never happens no biggie. Nice post mate.

    • September 13, 2012 at 12:07 pm #

I’m sure you’ll get it quicker than me Simmeon. I’ve noticed that you were using the title of your blog as “AmazongBloggers” before but now you changed it to “Amazing Bloggers”. I just want to suggest that stick with one to get Google sitelinks with.

Thanks for your comment and keep up the great work on your blog ;)

I agree with Techboy Rocky. Having sitelinks in Google can be rewarding and it validates your efforts in trying to become a successful blogger.

I have a question Ehsan. What to do in case you got only few sitelinks? I guess the same rules apply right? Meaning I should get more backlinks and have even more people search for my site, right?

        • September 16, 2012 at 2:31 pm #

Yeah you’re right Julius, The same rules applies and Google gives sitelinks automatically through an algorithm as I mentioned in the post. When they gives sitelinks they gives total 6 sitelinks, but you can manage them to show 2 or 4 from Google webmaster tools.
